The Schwindt's have owned and operated The Pleasant Valley Bed & Breakfast since the summer of 2000 but their story begins much farther back.
Ken grew up on the family farm just 4 miles west of the Bed & Breakfast and Sue came to the area as a young girl with her parents from Wichita, KS. The couple met in high school, dated
and eventually got married in June 1964 in this very building, then known as the Pleasant Valley Church. The Pleasant Valley Church was originally built in 1929 as a Methodist church by Ken's Great Grandfather Nicholas
Schwindt and Grandfather John Schwindt who purchased the land in 1902 and then deeded it and the surrounding 80 acres to start the congregation with a new
sanctuary being built in 1963. The congregation eventually dwindled and the building came up for auction in 2000.
The Schwindt's purchased The Pleasant Valley Church and rennovated it into The Pleasant Valley Bed & Breakfast. Ken
remodeled the original 3 Sunday School classrooms into 3 guests rooms, added 2 bathrooms and what
was once the sanctuary is now the Great Room Parlor, perfectly suited for meetings, dining, reflection, reading, a game of pool or playing the piano. Sue decorated with
countless family antiques and refinished and re-upholstered
many of the vintage furniture pieces found in each room of the Bed & Breakfast.
This building holds many memories. Not only was it the site of their marriage, but both of their daughters were baptized in the church. They attended many a Sunday service and funeral and shared many
a cup of coffee or tea with relatives and friends over the years. Today, they are still enjoying the cup of tea, the get-togethers with friends and family, and the now added opportunity
to meet and host the travelers
who opt for a old-fashioned country stay.
"We sincerely hope you enjoy your time here and look forward to meeting you."
